Cinephile – Philippe Garrel
The first part of this year’s non-competitive Cinephile section is ready We have put it together in collaboration with Kolektyw Ćma (Szymon Kowalski, Antoni Orlof).
Kolektyw Ćma presents: Nico and the early cinema of Philippe Garrel
We will screen two films from the early, most radical period of this French director’s body of work—cinema that exists on the threshold between dream and reality, where narrative gives way to imagery, music, and a free flow of associations. Garrel might be regarded as a key figure in post-Nouvelle Vague cinema in France.
This is also an encounter with Nico—a muse, collaborator, and one of the most significant figures in Garrel’s artistic universe. Her presence, music, and screen charisma help shape the hypnotic world of these films, in which cinema becomes a personal gesture—a record of emotions and an attempt to capture that which eludes words.
